The term gets used loosely. Some parks say they are pet-friendly but limit you to one small dog, charge a hefty pet deposit, or require you to keep your animal crated at all times. Others genuinely welcome pets and make the experience easy for everyone.

Summer on the Texas Gulf Coast is genuinely hot. Pavement and sand can reach temperatures that will burn your dog's paws in minutes. Walk your dog in the early morning or after sunset during peak summer months, and always carry fresh water.

Never leave your pet in a closed RV without air conditioning running. Even with windows cracked, interior temperatures can become dangerous within minutes on a hot Texas day.

Many RV parks require proof of current rabies vaccination for dogs. Keep a copy of your pet's vaccination records in your rig — it saves time at check-in and is required at most boarding facilities and veterinary offices if you need emergency care on the road.
